We know very little about Joachim Patinir who had so much influence on following generations of painters. His trade mark was high skylines and great spatial depth. Joachim Patinir worked in Antwerp from 1515 until his death in 1524. He arguably was the first European artist to specialize in painting landscapes. In this documentary filmmaker Miguel Angel Trujillo deals with the enigma of the painter Joachim Patinir of whom scant biographical details have survived. At the dawn of the 16th century, the painter revolutionized the art market and the concept of painting itself as we shall see in this film. Miguel Angel Trujillo's journey in quest of Patinir takes him to Antwerp, Berlin, Dinant, Geneva, Hamburg, Madrid, Rotterdam and Washington. Contributors include Maria Dolores Gayo, María Jésus Iglesias and Alejandro Vergara, The Prado; Selina Blasco, Universidad Complutense, Madrid; Eva Lootz, Artist; Teresa Mezquita, National Library of Spain; Joaquin Risueño, Painter; Paul Huvenne, Royal Museum for the Arts Antwerp; Peter Klein, Hamburg University and FilipVermeylen, Erasmus University, Rotterdam.
